Questions to ask before choosing a maternity or newborn photographer

Congratulations! You are probably now a few months into your pregnancy and you are maybe considering having a maternity photoshoot. If you are wondering how to chose the photographer that would work best for you and your family then keep scrolling, we are here to guide you!

Navigating the photography world can be a little daunting and confusing, unlike a standard product, photography is a very subjective art and every photographer manages their business a little different. While you are considering what type of photography and what photographer is the best one for your family, here is a list of questions you can ask to be able to navigate the offerings a little better.

How much does a maternity question cost?

My session fee is $300 for weekday sessions and $500 for weekend sessions. The session fee is due on the day of your session.

Does the session fee include digital images?

The session fee includes around 60 high resolution images delivered through a private online gallery for you to do your own printing. Some photographers don’t include any images on their session fee, so try to look for clarification on what’s included at each step of the booking or you will find nasty surprises at the end once it’s a little late.

Do you provide clothes or props?

Through my work I hope to be able to tell the story of your family. Lifestyle photography session at home is my favourite genre because I feel that I can take a piece of time and keep it intact for you in the years to come. I believe in genuine emotions and interactions, so I don’t have a wardrobe as I believe that the best clothes are the ones you have chosen for yourself and your family. I can provide some guidance in terms of choosing outfits so you look your best, but I don’t have a wardrobe for my sessions. In terms of props, my work is mostly unposed, so I don’t have props for newborn photography sessions, however I am happy to include items that have a meaning to you, like grandmother’s bracelet, the grandmothers’s knitted blanket or any other item that has a sentimental value to you and that will help me to be able to tell your story.

Are you up to date with all the current vaccinations?

Every year, I make sure that I double check the status of my latest vaccinations. As of the start of 2022 I currently have my Covid-19 vaccinations up to date and also my whooping cough. At the beginning of every flu season I also get the flu vaccine for piece of mind. I am happy to email my inmunisation certificate if you would like to have that document for piece of mind.

How long will it take for me to receive my images?

After our session, your fully edited images will be available in 10 to 15 working days. You will receive an email with the link to your online gallery where you will be able to view and download your high-resolution images.

I hope that these questions will assist you while considering your options for a maternity photographer or.a newborn photographer. If you think we are made for each other then shoot me a line and let’s get your session on the calendar!
